Transcona - a Growing Community

Hi, Neighbour!

A Growing and Tight-Knit Community

Located on the eastern edge of Winnipeg, has a rich history rooted in railway and industrial development. Established in 1912 as a separate town, it was named after the Transcontinental Railway and Lord Strathcona, a key figure in Canadian railway expansion. The area was originally built as a hub for the Canadian National Railway (CNR), with the Transcona Shops serving as a major maintenance and repair facility. Over the decades, Transcona evolved from a railway town into a vibrant residential and commercial district. In 1972, it was officially amalgamated into the City of Winnipeg, bringing its strong sense of identity and community pride with it.

Despite its industrial origins, Transcona has maintained a small-town feel within a growing city. The neighbourhood has continued to expand, with modern developments complementing the established residential areas. Today, Transcona is a well-rounded community that offers a mix of historic charm and contemporary living.
